My indispensable IQue 3600 battery is now starting to show signs of age
after about a year of daily use (sitting on the charger every night
and in the pocket during the day, e.g. ~360 charge/discharge
cycles(?)). I would guess the battery capacity is now at about 50% of
what it was when new a year ago.
Does anyone know if the battery is replaceable by mere mortals? Or, is
it not possible at all to replace? Is it a 'standard' type that one
could order online?
Any stories from users who have replaced their batteries would be much
appreciated!

That's the problem of buying a internal battery system. You can send it to
Garmin for a battery change. They will enjoy the money made buy it
it may cost them 4 or 5 dollars to replace it but they will charge you
a$100.00.

You can probably replace that yourself, here is a link for a replacement
battery. Note that it comes with instructions and tools (a T-6 screw
driver probably):
I have bought iPAQ batteries from that place and found them to be good.
That battery is almost exactly like the iPAQ battery.
You have to pull about 4 small screws, open the case with a little
gentle prying, maybe carefully and slowly peel up a cable held down with
double sided tape, break the bond on some double sided tape holding the
battery down, unplug the old battery, plug in the new, and then put it
all back together.
I think 500 cycles is a typical or maybe even optimistically typical
life for those batteries so you are about due for replacement. They
start winding down at the end your's is doing that.

This is a good deal you save $70.00 from letting Garmin do it. Bet that
pisses them off.
