Hi,
I am a current Dish Network customer and I own a PVR 510 and two 301
receivers. I know Dish now offers the lease program with the dual tuner PVR
522 and 322 receiver. Are there any advantages to leasing over owning or
owning vs. leasing? I called Dish and they said since I already am a Dish
customer I cannot lease.. I guess I just want to see if I made a mistake
owning, etc.. Maybe after my 2 year contract is up they would let me lease?
If anyone has any thoughts on how to swap out to the lease program please
let me know?

The 522 is only available through the Dish Network for new customers via the
lease program. I recently bought a 522 on eBay and activated it w/ the Dish
Network. It took some bitching to do & I threatened to cancel my service if
they didn't activate it. I sold my 510 & old 4900 on eBay. You can also
buy the 522 at a retailer, but no one has them in stock. I was told by a
Dish retailer that the 522 may be able to be purchased from Dish in a few
months. They are in very short supply right now.
The length of your current contract has no difference in being able to lease
again.
I would recommend calling the Dish Network before you buy the 522 to verify
that you can activate it. Then if they later say you can't, which happened
to me, bitch until you get your way!
The 522 is the best DVR receiver I've seen or used. It is incredible!!!

You might as well own them and stay with Dish because those receivers/PVR
units only work with Dish Network. there are other DVRs out there that can
be used with Dish, DirecTV and even regular tv antennae.
