Help overclocking amd am2 athlon 64 x2 4200

hi im new to overclocking i would like some help on overclocking my rig built it two years ago and has been a great rig but is starting to get slow on these new games so im wanting to overclock it to save from having to buy a new cpu ive senn forum where people have gone as high as 3 gigaherts , thanks again.
my system specs are
amd am2 athlon 64 x2 4200+
psu-silver stone st65zf 650 watt
ram=g-skill ddr2 1024 f2 6400 cL4-1gbpk x2 and g skill ddr2 1024 f2 6400 cL5-1gbnq x2
motherboard=gigabyte m59sli-s5
video card = nvidia 9500 gt pci-e x16
cpu cooling =freezer pro 64 arctic cooling
any help with this is would be great

I had that chip, but because it's multiplier is locked, I was limited in how I could overclock it. Plus, my memory was not the best so increasing the FSB and such resulted in the system not booting.

I've since upgraded to a Phenom II X3 720 BE and boy, am I happy!
