My comp's motherboard died and it's pretty old (socket 478 o_O) so I'm gonna fix it, sell it, and use the proceeds to fund my new computer. Here's what I've got so far:

Motherboard: Intel BOXDP45SG LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX DDR3 Intel Motherboard

CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Kentsfield 2.4GHz LGA 775 Quad-Core Processor Model BX80562Q6600

Video Card: ASUS EAH4870 DK/HTDI/512MD5 Radeon HD 4870 512MB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card

Hard drive: HITACHI Deskstar 7K1000 HDS721075KLA330 (0A35154) 750GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM

Case: RAIDMAX SMILODON Extreme Black ATX-612WEBP 1.0mm SECC Steel ATX Mid Tower Foldout MB Computer Case With 500W Power Supply

DVD drive/burner: LG 22X DVD±R DVD Burner Black SATA Model GH22NS30 - OEM

RAM: OCZ Fatal1ty Edition 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory (The Official Memory of the Championship Gaming

All from newegg. Total cost after rebate $768

I'm gonna replace the 500W psu that comes with the case with my 650 W corsair. I was wondering if it would be better to wait and see if the price of building an i7 system would come down any time soon : /

by the way, don't buy corsair memory with that motherboard, because apparently, it won't work

I know that you're buying OCZ memory, but I'm just saying, don't buy corsair memory (for that motherboard)

Go with DDR2, dual channel DDR3 is a waste of money. It offers no real performance gain over DDR2.

DDR2 6400 or 800mhz is perfect for the Q6600. I have mine running at 3.2ghz with the multiplier set to 8x so that the ram runs at full speed.

I'd recommend an ASUS P5Q Pro for about $150 and a 4gb set of low latency Mushkin ram. Which can be had for under $100

Also i don't see the pint in buying a case that comes with a PSU, when your just replacing the PSU anyway. My suggestion here would be an antec 900 for a midrange price, an antec 300 for budget. Or if you want a really nice one go for the Antec 1200 or similar.

Ram: The ddr3 ram I'm looking at is only $55
PSU: I want the case to come with a psu so I can swap it with the better psu I have now and sell it with my old system
