Hi All,
I'm in the process of building a HTPC playback (only) machine to primarily play SD DivX/XviD files through ffdshow on a standard CRT monitor, does anyone have any good CPU suggestions?
Or which factors I should look for when selecting a CPU & Motherboard that work well with DivX playback? Also I would like to use some of the features of ffdshow without getting choppy video (like my current P4 does). Budget is an issue so I'd like to go inexpensively as possible
Again this is just for SD playback (I encode on a different machine).
make sure you are using ffdshow-tryouts fork, or the ffdshow-mt (if you use a dual core) fork. the original ffdshow is no longer maintained. Also dont use evil "codec packs".
Even a intel atom can playback SD mpeg4-asp without problems. but if you want to use some of the directshow filters, i would suggest getting a dual core and taking advantage of ffdshow-mt.
So buy the lowest dual core you can afford, and pair it with a motherboard with the features you want.

What do you think about those systems for HTPC? I'm planning to add Radeon HD 4550 to it.
Is it worth getting system 2 for extra $100
