Hyper Threading Advice

HT on my i7 seems to produce a lot of heat so I have a dilemma.....

4.2GHz - 4.4GHz with HT off

or

4.0 GHz with HT on

Any Suggestions?

What is your cooler for starters?

Stock Intel cooler, only difference is Arctic Silver 5 TIM applied, with full load temps of < 70 OC'd

it depends what you use it for.

if you are gaming, HT is useless and may as well be removed. if you are encoding, compressing etc. then it is going to offer much more than a few hundred Mhz on the freq.

DUDE, you better call Guinness quick, that has to be a world record for a stock i7 cooler. You could be on the front page of every newspaper in the world.

Just in case you might think I'm serious, you may want to download coretemp or realtemp and check your temps.

wow, i only just realized he said he was on stock cooler. RJR is totally right, if you are generally going over 4ghz on stock cooler you are either breaking records or have a faulty temp sensor.
