I am going to build my parent a new computer because they just buy POS and complain about how slow they are. The computer is mainly going to be used for alot of excel and word work. Mom's an accountant. So will this computer be fine for her and fast for when she saves and moves her big excel sheets?

They probably won't use the 4 cores either ;)

For the RAM, it's just that not all boards deal well with 4 memory modules so if in a year they want to use Vista or Windows 7 (whatever reason), they won't have to throw the 2GB they already have and buy 4GB then. Moreover, RAM can often be a bigger multitasking bottleneck than the CPU itself.

Are you sure this isnt going to be used for your occasional gaming pleasures too? If all they're doing is web, and office, then pick up a cheap 65nm core 2 duo, 2 gig of cheap ram, an 80 gig hdd, and g31 mobo. You'll get by with a few hundred dollars at the most.
