the sound card is not required u can save some cash there and get the 4870 or 4850x2 way better than 9800gtx+ nad ati has just slashed prices of 4870 and 4850 by $50 i guess

I intend on getting a 300gb 10kRPM Raptor from work.

What makes the 4870 better then the 4850

1 card is like 210 bucks; I want to CF the cards
so 420 for 2 1gb 4870's is really worth the speed?

Any reason you're water cooling? You could potentially save $300 by swapping the water cooling set for air cooling.
For that money, you could toss in another 4850 or just get a 4870x2

I saw some reviews for that wifi card and I didn't like what I saw. However, I can't "suggest" a card since I'm using a crummy linksys one.

Tom's recently did a review on of the x58 motherboards and EVGA's motherboard came in close to last place.

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/x58-motherboard-i7,2164.html

This may influence your buying decision, but again, I can't suggest one as I don't own any i7 rigs :(

Best of luck,
G3force

a gud point made by g3force unless ur planning to oc like crazy and u r getting a very gud cabinet so air cooling should be enough therefore dont get a watercooling kit coz u can reach around 3.5 on air itself get a gud aftermarket cooler and save the 300 bucks and yes two 4870's will definately improve performance since im guessing ull be gaming at 1900*1200 res. and u can check out the gigabyte x58 mobos as well very gud build quality!

I guess I may be missing something; is there a specific "air cooling system"
or are we just talking heavy on the side of fans?

With a budget like that you can afford to get way better things than that. If I were you i'd buy a asus rampage 2 or x58 mobo and a pair of 4870x2. And a Nice cooler.
12gigs on windows 7 wouldn't be all that bad either with that budget.

First question, why the hell would you use ATI? That **** is garbageware... Go nVidia dude, don't let these noobz tell you ATI, that **** is too funny.

I like OCZ memory better than G. Skill, but that's a matter of preference i suppose. I use the Antec Quattro 1000 PSU. Me mate has had bad expierences with Corsair psu.

I had a Thermaltake Shark case, it was ok, but I love the Antec 1200 so much better. That case is the ****!

How do you feel about a mobo with onboard wifi?

I agree with the other guys about sticking with the onboard sound. Check it out and see if you like it first. I high end board will have nice digital sound supporting 7.1 and some nice connections, like S/PDIF.

I think you're spot on with your CPU, that's such a dope ass one! At least you didn't go AMD...

Best of luck on your build.

Excuse me while I die laughing...

ATI is an excellent choice, and the 4870 1GB is an extremely nice card, especially for the price. Nvidia makes good cards too, but they are definitely not way ahead of ATI.

As for the Antec, it isn't bad, but Corsair PSUs are better, regardless of "you mate" having any bad experiences.

As for onboard wifi, that doesn't exist on a 1366 board yet. It is nice, but you can't get it right now for a system like that.

haha, ok then you get your sh*tty ATI card. 4870 is decent for a novice's needs i suppose. I thought only Mac fanboy's actually buy ATI? I don't want to get in a flame war about how ATI is inferior to nVidia anyways.

Corsair PSU's... ehhh. They kind of ****. We have had 5 out of 25 fail within the first year. Meanwhile our Antec's seem to just keep running for years w/o issues. If i didn't go with Antec, i'd go with a 1000wt from PC Power & Cooling. Why aren't you getting a 1000wt btw? If you're gonna spend all this money on the PC, why even consider 800wt especially if you're going SLI, oh, excuse me crossfire?

Hmm i thought Asus had a wifi board 1366 board out. Could be wrong i'll try to find it...

When it came to actual game play experiences, we thought the Phenom II 940 was clearly the better choice in Company of Heroes: Opposing Fronts and Crysis Warhead due to minimum frame rate advantages and fluidity of game play. In the five other titles, we could not tell any real differences in the quality of game play between the Phenom II 940 and Core 2 Quad Q9550. Except for Far Cry 2 where we could raise the graphic quality settings without affecting game play, the i7 platform was no different than our two other solutions.

Curious;
I want to get a secondary card with an HDMI output that also carries sound.
Using the VisionTek Radeon HD 4870 X2 2GB card it only has the two DVI and 1 SVideo.

I am wondering how this will effect performance and such.

Doing some research on the video card I currently have listed; a user has said that I need to pay attention to the amperage on the PSU; looking over the specs of that card it says that it requires 1kw... that concerns me, can anyone shed some light.

Also; can anyone recomend a good Modular PSU?
