So I am finally going to buy a HD 4870, but there is something I am concerned about. Would I want to upgrade my cpu to avoid a bottleneck and if I do which should I get? I can buy either the 5400+ BE or a 7750 Kuma both of which are around 60 bucks. I will be using this set up for another four to five months until I buy another card to run crossfire in the future when I upgrade to an LGA 775 motherboard. A friend of mine is going to sell me his E8400+X48 mobo.

this is what I have now

AM2 3800+ OC 2.7ghz
Abit KN9-SLI AM2 mobo
evga 7950GT
2gb g.skll ddr2 800

Probably be just fine. Realistically the E8400, unless overclocked, isnt THAT much faster than the AMD chip you have. Instead of buying the E8400+X48 you may be cheaper and better off to buy a Phenom 2 quad and just update the CPU on your existing system.

I agree with Kaldor, that way you can upgrade the RAM to 4GB as well. You will see a nice performance increase from upgrading the CPU and RAM. :)
