I just used google (http://groups.google.com/advanced_group_search) to
look up
network share
in microsoft.public.pocketpc and got 681 hits. I think several of the
first few are relevant and useful.

none of that information told me what i didn't already know.
when i try to access the computer, it asks me for a username and
password, but windows xp will only allow you to access a share if you
actually have a username and password, and i don't know how or what it
is in win mobile. so, the two id's conflict and i get booted off. any
other ideas?

I rarely use a Pocket PC to access a share, so I'm not the best person
to answer this question. I'll try (see below). But if I don't help, I
suggest asking the question, as you have restated it in your second
post, in microsoft.public.pocketpc

If you're dealing with XP Home, then guest is the only user given
access to shares. If you're dealing with XP Professional, then whoever
set up each share specifies the user names (or set of user names) with
access to that share.

For "big" Windows (98, NT, 2k) I often connect using a name other than
my current logon name. I assume you can do the same from Windows
CE/Pocket PC/Windows Mobile. So, when you are prompted for a user name
and password combination, you should use a name and password that is
allowed for the share, with _no_ regard to whatever user name you
might have used elsewhere.
