I am considering an HP laptop (Elitebook 2470p tablet) that (unfortunately) uses a 1.8-inch drive at 4200rpm. I usually upgrade a laptop drive sometime during the life of the machine. After a little searching I see no one selling 1.8 drives to the end user with faster spindle speed or a selection of capacities.

Anyone know of reliable manufacturers/sources of 1.8-drive hardware?

Ooops-I got the spec wrong for the 2470... HP configures it with a 5400rpm 250Gig unit. Not as bad as I thought.

From my reading today it looks like the next step is an SSD when those have come down a bit. This will be used with Win7 64-bit OS, i5 -540 so I can add memory for some extra speed, too.

Any thoughts on the future of 1.8-inch SSD manufacturing? is this 1.8-inch form factor going to have continued SSD product development?
