I'm gonna be gaming on a 1440 x 900 and I was originally going to get a HD 4870 1 gig but it might be a little overkill, just a little.

Crap, I don't know if I should just get the 4870 1 gig to future proof my pc.

at that resolution a 4870 512mb is plenty. i would only recommend 1gig if you were to play at 19x12 or over.

well i currently play on a 24 inch lcd at 19x12 res and my 4850 still holds up...(*got the 4850 when i had a 19 inch and completely destroyed every game*)

It depends.

The 4870 1gb will rape most games at 1440x900. This will probably make you want to get a larger, higher-res monitor (22"+).

What's the GPU forecast? Any new models due out soon / price cuts looming?
