im working on a new PC.. and i know that the 260 is like 10% better(maybe more, from benchmarks ive looked at) and i have enough for either one(not for the 280 tho sadly)

but im wondering if the around 75$ or so extra for the 260 is worth it? or is a 9800GTX+ just fine for being able to save 50-75$?

What resolution are you playing at?

The 9800gtx+ can handle most current games at 1680x1050 with medium to medium/high settings.
You're not going to max demanding/poorly coded games like Crysis, GTA 4, FarCry 2, etc. Games that use the Half Life 2 "Source engine" are easier to run, as are games that use the UT3 game engine.

The gtx260 Core 216 is a great card, with performance close the gtx280 at lower resolutions. With it's higher amount of video memory (896mb vs 512mb for the 9800) in addition to it's newer processor and more stream processors, you can really crank the settings more and not have lag and screen tearing.

If you're playing at 1900x1200, you definitely need the gtx260.

A friend of mine has the Core 216 and I have a 9800gtx (not +, difference is clock speed) and gameplay better on his PC (we're both using 22" LCDs, Intel quads and 8gb of ram).

i only got a 20" screen, so i guess the 9800GTX+ will be ok.. but i might get a 260 anyway just so i dont have to worry about upgrading it later xD Thanks.
