as i hope you know XFX is now going to produce ATI gpu's and they are supposed to be released on the 5th, with that said i have never used anything but nvidia chipset mobo's because i love sli. but now that XFX is going to make ATI i might look into building my new system using radeons instead of geforce gpu's. but i dont know what kind of motherboard is crossfire compatible. i guess any mobo that doesnt have a nvidia chipset ans at least 2x pci-e 16 slots will run crossfire but im not sure. so if someone can clear this up for me and point me in the right direction that would be great and thanks alot because i think i could save some cash if i can use almost any other mobo.
The only cheap mobo's with 2 x 16x lanes are the older x38 and newer x48. X38's are $150+ and X48's $180+. All the P45 boards drop to one lane at 16x and one at 8x for Crossfire.
The new boards XFX are making are X58 ($250 cheap, $300+ for a good one), which require a $270+ Intel i7 CPU and DDR3 memory. So you're looking at mobo, CPU, 6gb DDR3 and a socket 1366 heatsink = $700+ for the entry-level of these high-end parts.
