mmm... they perform on par mostly if not always the GTX260 takes the cake, in performance what you have to consider are detail especially price, EVGA, Temps, Power Consumption, etc, just EVGA step up its enough for me at this point but, in Ati Favor and since i own a 4870 instead of a 260GTX, the Ati card offers better image quality for some reason when watching movies and 7.1 Audio...
mmm... physx or CUDA i wouldn't buy based on that, since at some point Havoc will also become GPU based and probably the Physics Standard Microsoft owning both Dx an Havoc and a big chunk of my Country LOL...
To conclude Buy the cheapest if they cost the same buy the EVGA 260GTX
A lot of it depends on what you will be doing. For the most part they are similar, but in some games one excels, while in others, the other does better.
Look at the benchmarks for the games you like at the resolution you'll be playing.

agreed Havoc will be the PHysics standard; blizzard already has choosen havok as their physics engine! That is true imagine quality has always been better for ATI. From a price standpoint you can find the 4870 for as low as 200 at newegg which is a sweet deal. are we talking about the 216 proccesing cores or 192 proccessing cores?; either way it the gtx 260 is more.
Both of those cards are pretty much in the same range but the newest iteration of the 260 (216 core) is a bit faster. It pretty much becomes a matter of personnel preferences and price, you really can't go wrong with either one.
^ yep, price, warranty, support, noise, specific games at specific resolutions. They're very close in performance so those other factors may play a bigger role for you.
