explain you beep... two times? long short? maybe memory failure.... if you desperate.. ask your friend computer, try to get to slave hardisk and see if your hardisk "real fail" or not...
if really fail...
try software like testdisk http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk
if still fail, put in freezer, extract important data..
after that ... destroy that one... (donot sell or keep...destroy it..)

sometimes virus like autorun.inf is corrupted though....
you can save your 50$ for else though.. :D

next time remember to backup your data (buy separate hardisk, put it into separate place... think about if thief come and steal your house...)

DETAIL :

I was using my DELL laptop INSPIRON 6000

suddenly it freezes, I shutdown via holding power button

when I switch it on after a while "INTERNAL HDD ERROR"

Then I placed my friends new hard drive in my laptop same error

I took my laptop to repair shop it cost me £20 and 2 hours to fixed it, technician said laptop motherboard got some short circuit

Now my laptop is ok

but my hard drive never work since then, I`ve attached it with my friends laptop as slave it start searching for device driver but the "driver failed"
nothing displaying in windows or on MANAGE(device manager)

yesterday I`ve put that hard drive in my laptop as master and went to BIOS
it shows 20GB of hard drive (but my original drive is 60GB)

whenever I connect it to computer via IDE/SATA cable it beeps 4-5 times hard drive make sound like something is happening then after 5 beeps completely SILENT

again, I only is my data.

please let me know if anyone want more details.

Have you tried putting the HDD in a USB enclosure and accessing it with another PC?
It may very well be that you can save some data that way.

You are able to perform a recovery by yourself with some recovery tools.

Here is a tutorial: http://www.icare-recovery.com/drs-features-tutorial.html

BTW, some beeping sound might caused by bad boot sector. or you may try chkdsk

original hard drive space 60GB

shows in BIOS 20GB

in windows not recognized, as a master or when connected to other

please help me how can i get this drive show in windows when connected to other PC ??

I`ve contacted many DATA recovery websites they said we can only help you if your hard drive recognized in WINDOWS(when connected to other PC)

else they want my hard drive(which i can`t trust)
