Phenom II X4 810 2.6GHz vs Phenom II X3 720 2.8GHz

It's a bit more expensive, but will I see an improvement in gaming? I plan OC'ing either to 3.0GHz.

  1. You probably won't see a difference in gaming for awhile. If you're keeping it for 2 years or more, I'd go with the X4 810.
  2. I would go for the X3 720. The more cache per core will help for gaming.
  3. the extra core only really makes a difference if the game in question makes use of it.
At the moment, I would go for the X3 and overclock it. You cant go wrong.
  4. there have been rumors going around about certain biostar motherboards being able to unlock the 4th core of the x3 chips. I almost bought a system today to tinker around with, but backed out once I found out how much new tires cost.
  5. Certain Asrock M/B's will do it too but you don't buy a chip because some early buyers got a bonus. The 720 is a Black Edition and OC'ing to 3.0 would just be a matter of changing the x14 to an x15. No muss, no fuss and there is more available cache for however many cores are in use.
