Tonight my Avast was poping up every few miuntes saying it blocked a malacious attack, then all kinds of malware programs poped up and pretty much locked up my system. I rebooted into safe more so I could do a system restore to an earlier point. When I clicked on start>programs it said (empty) and didnt show any of my programs. Then I checked my slave drive and it didnt show a single folder or file, like everything got deleted from it. By now I am freaking out!

I take the slave drive out and put it into my other computer. Again its showing NOTHING but the weird thing is if I click on the drives properties it says totaly size 1.36TB, Used space 660GB, Free space 736GB. Which last time I checked sounds about right. So are the files still on there and if so how can I recover them? I REALLY need to get these files back, alot of important stuff on it. Ive never had this problem before so any help would be much appreciated!!

Ok well I feel like an idiot now, somehow all the files and folders got marked as hidden. Now whats the best way to make sure nothing got installed on this drive that could cause further problems?

One of the methods fake rogue anti-malware software uses is to hide files to make you think you have a genuine threat they can fix if only you pay them enough.

Go to http://www.atribune.org and download ATF Cleaner then to http://www.piriform.com and download CCleaner. ATF just runs but CCleaner needs to be installed but both will find different types of clutter and delete it so your malware scanners have less to go through.

Next, go to http://www.malwarebytes.com and download MalwareBytes then install and update it and restart. Tap Function 8 before Windows loads to see the Advanced Boot menu and select Safe Mode with Networking. Bring up MBAM and update it again just in case then run the Full Scan. When it completes, click on Show Results and then on Remove Selected and restart back into Normal Mode. If you still have any doubts, go back into MBAM and click the Logs tab and paste your log back here for further advice.
