I had a friend install a new hard drive and now my SM bus controller is not installed. I have a driver disk but can't find anything on there for an SM bus controller. My computer isn't recognizing my MP3 player and I think this is why. How can I install it?

It's buried in the chipset drivers if it is an AMD based board.

You need to locate it in the system drive and look for it in the ATI folder (First level off root directory) "Except" AMD in their infinite laziness, does not always supply the SMBus driver in the chipset driver package. Grrrr....

If you find it....Right-click the 'inf' file and click on "Install"

If you can't find it, you can download the little file from

Unzip the files in a folder you can get to easily. The driver is installed easily...

Right-click the 'inf' file and click on "Install"

If you have an nVidia system, try Google.
