Hi guys,

Im using winxp home edition and i have sygate personal firewall. I'm connected to a router. I was wondering if there is a way for me to setup the firewall so that the other computers on my network cant ping me or get info on my internet connection?

Thanks in advance.

not familiar with Sygate but in Zonealarm there's a screen which lists all your network adapters. Just configure your LAN's network adapter to not be 'trusted'.

Sapphire 9800Pro 420/744

would that block other users on my network from pinging my connection?
I'm pretty new to sygate still too, I used to run outpost but I started getting BSOD and Agnitum never released a fix for it so i switched a few weeks ago to SPF.

Under tools > options > network neighborhood - I have unchked both options to allow browse network neighborhood files and printer and allow share file and printer. But I don't think that it does the things that I want.

It should be settings in your firewall software.

Like I said I'm not familiar with anything but Zonealarm, but I know I had problems with my home network PCs not being able to see the one with ZoneAlarm on, because by default after install it decided my home network was unsafe, and I had to tell it that my LAN adapter was a 'Trusted Zone' before my PC re-appeared. You should find something similar in your software I would guess.

I couldn't PING, browse across to the 'puter or anything until I suddenly realised that it was zonealarm that was blocking me - it seemed as if that PC just didn't exist at all. I spent half an hour plugging and unplugging cables and fiddling with settings until I thought to check Zonealarm. I felt a bit stupid after I realised

yeah i had really bad luck with ZA pro so I'm gonna stay away from it. But I dun think there is something like that in SPF where it asks whether or not a network is trusted or not like most of the other firewalls.
Thanks for ur reply. I guess I will have to fiddle around with it and see if it's possible. or maybe just switch back to kerio or outpost. =\

Never tried that firewall, but check for "block incoming icmp requests" or "outgoing icmp echo replies". Or you can just block ICMP all together, but then you can't ping.
