Locked out by IT jerks

Hi! I was given a PC laptop via work which is great though the IT guys have locked it so I can`t install apps, I really need a custom program they have on there so can`t wipe the laptop yet I REALLY need a couple of apps to streamline my workflow.

Question: How do I unlock my computer running XP?

Check with them, I'm sure they'll help you install the application. It's normal to take off admin rights from users, helps to prevent viruses (although not often) and issues caused by people installing 30 applications that conflict with what's on the computer already.

That is the tradeoff for being employed! As already suggested, talk to your IT department, and maybe if you REALLY has a good business case they will install them. Are the software apps you think you need really worth violating policy with the risk of losing your job?

BTW, I am not IT at my day job, and I was able to justify retaining my Admin rights when they locked down the other PCs in my unit.
