Reboot and select proper boot device windows 7

Hello,
i have a strange problem after installing windows 7 i started getting a message on boot-up saying reboot and select proper boot device or input boot media this happens a few times and then it would eacventually boot but after a few months now it constantly says this after doing all the little tricks i know im still getting nowhere and through bios i can see that my comp is not seeing the hdd is there anything else i can try before i try buying a new hdd?

sorry upon reading other simelar problems i have left quite a vague discription so ;
i am running an acer aspire desktop
product m1200/3200/5200

with bios version R01-B2

i have removed the hdd and started the comp and the hdd disc is spinning but the bios still cant find the hdd i have no idea whats going on lol but would there be a problem with the device drivers or some thing of that nature thanks to anyone who could hazzard a guess.
