Lost my HDD and think my mobo is the cause due to a short. Replacing mobo and vid card too. Already ordered a new 500gb Seagate HDD, and got a BFGR1000W PSU.

Looking at:
Giga Mobo
and
Sapphire 4830

Have 3GB G.Skill 6400 I'll be keeping and an E6300 which I hope to OC upwards of 3.0 again till I can replace in probably early spring.

Need to keep price around $200. I'm a hair over that now which is ok.

Thoughts?

Using a 19" crt currently, but may be upgrading to something like this in the near future.

Hmmm.. the card is a good one. Check this post for more on gaming cards and prices:

If you spend just a bit more you can get the gigabit mobo with CF capability:

this would give you better upgrade possibilities as 4830 CF is a pretty good and cheap solution.

It might also go a little ways towards justifying your massive PSU - why did you choose a 1000W PSU - is it connected to your room heater? Just joking, but i'm curious to hear because from what I see you won't be pulling near that amount of power.

The PSU was given to me by a friend who didn't need it. Currently have a ZMax ZU500W. Probably enough juice, but I figured more juice wouldn't hurt. :)

As far as the mobo, I'll probably never go CF. Games I play are Everquest and Combat Arms occasionally. The 4830 may be overkill for me, but I do want to have options for the future. I think my mobo issues have affected my current X1950 Pro. I run 2 instances of EQ, and it used to handle it fine. Now I get messages constantly that I'm running out of vid memory.

Don't forget if your running an OEM operating system that if you get a new MOBO you gotta buy a new license
