How do i create an association in the folder options control panel

Last response: in Windows XP

Hello, After downloading Internet Explorer, I could no longer use my Firefox web shortcuts. When I click on a shortcut icon, it says "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Folder Options control panel." I tried getting rid of Internet Explorer but my shortcut icons still don't work. Can someone tell me what happened and how to fix this problem. Thanks.

you go to the third tab. At the top of the list there are file types that do not have an extension. (say NONE in screenshot)
you need to make sure they are associated with some program to open them.
In your case it would be the "Internet Shortcut" file type that you need to make sure has a program attached to it.

Open Firefox

Click Tools>Options>Advanced>System Defaults>"Always check to see if Firefox is the default browser on startup"
