Im in the market for a new HD4870 512mb edition.
Ive looked on places like aria.co.uk, ebuyer.co.uk, novatech.co.uk, scan.co.uk

but these places are expensive, i came across an American website called Newegg.com, they sell a New HD4870 512mb edition for 200 dolars (about 132 britsh pounds) which is great, but they dont ship to the UK. (Damn it!!!)

So Can anyone suggest a website that has good prices and delivers to the UK or are based in the UK?

Many thanks to anyone that can help.

I don't have a website to suggest since I live in Canada but I would suggest looking at the 1gb version of the 4870, usually it is a bit more expensive but if you game at high resolution it is worth it 'cause you can crank the AA and AF higher than the 512mb version.

That is true of the 4870... It seems to me that if you need such a video card, then you are probably gaming at a higher resolution. If you are gaming at a higher resolution and spending so much money, then your best bet is to lay down the extra 30-40 bones and get the 1 gig version. I like the looks of the Sapphire offering. Asus has a 1 gig version too. Newegg does have a Canadian version. Does it ship to the UK?

not sure what prices the other sites had but http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sapphire-1 [...] 428&sr=8-1 seems decent, and its a 1gb

Reply to tonyn84

wow that is a good price, ok to the people suggesting a 1gb version, i already have a 512mb HD4870 and im looking for another for xfire, but i dnt have the £££ for a 4870x2

so can anyone beat amazon ???

feel free to post where you get your hardware from!

it will probably cost about 20 pounds for shipping lol, but still cheaper than anywhere in the UK, i wish i lived in the US =/ would be tight!

I thought all of the 4XXX series are compatible with each other in crossfire though the stronger card will be clocked down to the speeds of the slower card. If I am correct about this the 1GB version would work with your 512 and equal out to 1.5 GB.

Also Newegg won't do that for you. If you have any American internet friends that you can trust they can always buy it and ship it to you and just use paypal to transfer the funds. Of course all of us Americans are trust worthy and lets not forget we are family ;)

lol, its about 60 pounds cheaper @ newegg
i dnt have any trust worthy friends in America =/ how can it be this hard to get a parcel from America to britain in this day and age

i dnt really want to ask a random American either, to risky could just take my money and keep the card =/

anyone got any smart ideas?

Nah, it's FRANCE that is getting ready to convert, not the British.

To be honest your out of luck then when it comes to getting it from Newegg. Your best bet is to simply find the lowest price you can in the UK.

What if you had a Fed Ex account or a UPS account. Would they do it under someone else's account?

Dumb idea probably. If you had an account with the shipping company then it would essentially be a shipping deal between you and your shipping company. Basically all they would have to do is tender your parcel to that shipping company and then what happens with it after that is not their concern. I'm sure there is more to it then that, though. Bet they wouldn't do it because of refunds, tax laws and such.

yeah that is my plan, ive e-mailed UPS and Newegg and waiting for a replay
ive asked Newegg to send the item to UPS and ive asked UPS to send it to mee!!,
ill let you know what they say, they will probably say in ur dreams, but hey its worth my time :D

Reading this thread just made me think (it was a little painful) What if you were to get a US P.O. Box and have the mail from the box forwarded to you? I don't know if Newegg or anyone else will ship to a P.O Box and but it might be worth looking into, especially if you plan to order things often.

Reading the FAQ on Newegg's site says that they won't ship to a P.O box

Check out Tiger Direct. They are often a little more expensive than Newegg or Zipzoomfly et al. But I believe they will ship to you and it may save you some money.

Reading on Tigerdirect's page, it looks like they not only ship internationally, but it looks like they price-match competitors pricing. Give them a call or e-mail. That might be the best way to go.

Zipzoomfly are good aswell, better than tiger direct i think.

they got a HD4870 512MB for only 200 dolars, and also a HD4870 1GB for 230dolars
i hope they deliever to the UK

Also i have a question, will i get better performance from the 1GB card? (crossfiring it with a OC'd 512MB card) or will it go down to 512mb because the other 1 is?

ideas people?

Being a dumb American, I didn't realize that Ginger spice was an allusion to having red hair. Until very very very recently, I thought she was the only one in the group smart enough to pick an actual spice.

lol^^ :D

I was wondering if you could help me (again)

As you know im going to get another 4870 for crossfire, nd ive read that if you have 2 x 4870's in crossfire the memory from both the cards is not combined, so firstly will i get an performance increase with 2 HD4870's as a pose to 1 when playing games @ 1920x1080 with AA and AF on?

secondly: if i was to buy a 1GB version of the 4870 and use it as my primary card (pci-e slot 0) and have my current card connected to it, would i then get 1GB of memory?, or will the 1GB card become 512MB?

ideas? please post ^__^

Good question for Grate Ape or others who know more about that then me. I've got a Crossfire MoBo, but I've never done it.
