Stuck on acquiring network address.

When trying to connect to my new wireless internet via a netgear router. connection fails by getting stuck on aquiring network. i can access internet via ethernet cable from router. and i know my wireless worked fine at my parents home via netgear router. any ideas what the problem maybe? my flatmates all have laptops and theirs work wirelessly. also triple checked my network key password thingy is right and its definately th one they set up.
