Older pentium 4 question

Hi guys
Since i'm not up on cpu's i'm gonna pose a question. I have a gateway 500s computer here i was gonna try and beef up for the grandkids.
The cpu in it now is a pentium 4 1.5 gig at 100mhz. I am able to get my hans on a 2.2 gig at 400mhz

Will this run ok or not?

is the 2.2gGhz a Pentium 4 as well? or is it something like a Pentium D

To avoid costly trials-and-errors,
start with the CPU Compatibility Table
for that motherboard (if it exists).

This will save you many hair follicles
otherwise lost during "tear-out" episodes.

Yes it's pentium 4

i cannot remember but i think all P4's are the same socket type i check just to make sure. sense its a brand name computer its possible that you may need to update the BIOS for that CPU to work

I seem to remember early P4's were built for socket 423... then later on they moved to socket 478

download cpu-z and get the model number for the motherboard.
