Hello People, I wanted to ask a few questions here that will really help me out and possibly give a little insight to some of those searching this forum. I never see a Administrator locked thread area that has answers in it to keep people from constantly asking the same thing over and over which makes the experienced users get mad and yell at them to search the forum before they ask questions...So maybe this post will have some of the basic questions people are looking for...I know these are some I would liked answered..
==================================================

1. Why is it important to buy the correct Ramm?

2. Why Do I need to install the Ramm in Slots 1+3 or 2+3 and not 1+2?
What will happen? What does it mean by Slots 1,2 or 3?

3. What is the Difference in SATA and IDE ?

4. Do I have to Re-install windows when I upgrade my processor?

5. In the BIOS, What is CPU External Frequency?
What is the best setting?

6. Is it a good thing to use Artic Thermal Adhesive to install heatsinks to
all of the chips on my motherboard, Hdd, and other various items
that create heat?

7. I've read about Unlocking Cpu, What does this mean?
What are the hazards of doing this to a CPU?

8. Is it better to have alot of small Case fans or a few large ones?

9. What is the Correct Flow Direction for the Fan on my CPU?
What is the difference?

10. I want to add lights to my case to make it look cool, Do I need a
bigger power supply? If yes, Why?

A7N8X-E Deluxe Advanced Questions. Your main system is an AMD Athlon Socket A? Wow. I have that ASUS MB and an AMD 3200. I built new years ago. Check the Homebuilt Systems forum for ideas on a new build.

The sytem will not run with incorrect RAM.

Well, in your board specifically the A7N8X-E Deluxe, if you are using 1 DIMM only just install that one DIMM in slot 1. If you have a processor like mine, the AMD 3200 Barton, that processor will run dual channel in slots 2 and 3 specifically.

3. What is the Difference in SATA and IDE ?

The interface and data transfer rate capabilities or top speed limitations.

4. Do I have to Re-install windows when I upgrade my processor?

No. On rare occasion, yes. But, if you are swapping out a processor just install the new unit and Windows OS should recognize it properly.

I haven't had my system running for some time, but external CPU frequeny would be the speed at which the processor is/would/could be running. There are different versions of BIOS available for the board.

To the HSF/CPU fine, you will need thermal compound there. I wouldn't suggest fiddling with the 'chips' on the MB. Case fans and airflow provide some cooling there. Hard drive does not need thermal compound, no where to put thermal compound on a HD. Various 'other' items...certainly not.

Your Athlon 2800 will not unlock the multiplier upward. The BIOS may allow 'downlocking' the multiplier, have not looked at my board in a while. Some CPU's are capable of being overclocked via the unlocked multiplier. There is no hazard in increasing the processor speed by increasing the multiplier. The system will simply not boot up and run at that speed...fail to load. Usually it's a voltage increase that causes concern or can be a potential hazard.

8. Is it better to have alot of small Case fans or a few large ones?

Large ones move more air.

9. What is the Correct Flow Direction for the Fan on my CPU?

Blowing directly on the CPU. If the fan is blowing away from the CPU the unit will overheat and could destroy itself.

A case light draws very little 12v power. You can add one and it should not effect the performance of the PSU. On the other hand, graphics cards will draw a lot of power from the 12v source.
