Forum CPU & Components : CPUs What is the best cpu I can upgrade to?

Hello,
I have a gateway LX 6200 computer that currently has the Phenom 9500 init. It's a quadcore 2.2GHz CPU and I've been told that I don't see an increase in frame rates in the games that I play betwen my old Nvidia 8800 GTS and a new Nvidia 9800 GTX because it's likely that my CPU is bottlenecking and a upgrade of my CPU should show me performance increases with using either video card.

With that in mind, Im wondering if anybody knows if it's possible to upgrade the CPU in this gateway computer and if so, to which CPU can I upgrade to?

Thanks

These are direct drop in replacements right? I mean I know I'll have to reinstall windows (as my last experience showed that windows wasn't too fond having the cpu or mainboard ripped out from under it), but with either of these CPU's, just pull out the old, and insert the new, right?

Thanks,

Do you have any idea what make of motherboard is in that, it will have a name followed by 780G I think,
but also Have you considered that you may ahve to upgrade your PSU, I believe its only a 400w in that machine

His mobo supports AM3 P2's.
He won't have to upgrade his PSU, P2's take less wattage than P1's.

And yes it's a direct drop. You may have to flash the BIOS but that's it.

I already have an upgrade PSU, it's a thermaltake 750watt toughpower to accomodate the 8800 video card as the original stock psu use to make an awful noise when I installed the 8800 in this computer, like it was straining electrically.

Hmmm, flashing the bios might be a problem, I've yet to find any updates for the gateway bios so far that I've looked since I was looking to flash the bios originally so that I could attempt to overclock the current CPU just a wee bit which the bios currently doesn't support as far as I can see.

According to Everest the main board is: (whether it's accurate info I can't say, it is what everest reports for the mainboard)

its not the P2 Im worried about, its the fact hes up graded his GPU as well, or have I read it wrong ?

Upgraded earlier I think.

But don't worry, it shouldn't require a flash. Reviews for that computer, people are saying they just popped in a P2 and it worked fine.
