Lg gh22lp20 problems

ive recently purchased a LG GH22LP20 dvd drive and needed a sata - ide converter to connect but everytime i try to burn anything my PC crashes/freezes and ive tried the registry fix upper/lower..... need help ASAP!!!!!!!

Assuming you dont have an available IDE channel to test it. Just asking because my motherboard does have both, although only a single IDE channel and you didn't tell us what motherboard you have.
Could very well be software, I would test the LG drive in another machine to verify it is working correctly.

the old lightscribe drive never got used and i went to use it one day and it didnt read DVDs but did CDs, this new one fires up and reads all discs but when it comes to writing anything it spins the disc up loudly and crashes the PC while still spinning, also it tries to format a DVD-R and i was told they dont need formatting?? IDE on motherboard only had 37 pins and drive takes 40
