hahaha. well man, welcome to the club. I just got into computer building. I got all my parts together though. asus mobo 5400+ dual core 600 w psu 500 gig hard drive, and a bunch of other things. I will hope for the best of luck for you! Oh and by they way.. get 64 bit vista. I find 32 to be a bit sluggish.

You'll gain very little, if any, performance using ddr2 1066 with a q6600, because to get alot of benefit from it you'd have to overclock past 3.6ghz... And you won't be overclocking past that unless you've got some extreme cooling system hooked up.
So just go with some ddr2 800 and save yourself some money.

also, if you were willing to spend around $1000 you could set yourself up with a new i7 system.

What are you going to be using this system for most of the time?

And what resolution are you going to be gaming at?

And what games do you want to play?

I'm open to different set ups, I was thinking i7

Here is my budget:

Intel Core i7 920 Quad-Core Socket LGA1366, 2.66Ghz, 4.8GT/s FSB, 8MB L3 Cache, 45nm (Retail Boxed)
http://canadacomputers.com/index.php?do=ShowProduct&cmd=pd&pid=020622&cid=CPU.84

Asus Mobo, price range, American 250-300$- Really need help with this one

I already own the 750W Silencer PSU as well as the video card, I will be upgrading cards in the near future.

Case is staying unless someone has negative feedback about it

The ram, still need to know what manufacturer, and what would be the best ram for my set up.

Also I down own a copy of vista 32bit, on this computer Im wonder if i should just swap HD's instead of buying a new one?

Or would it just be better to get the WD AAKS 640 for 90$ or w/e with a copy of vista 64bit 150$

Canadians pay on average 30-60$ more just for comparison.

Currently on 17 inch LCD but its old, ill probebly be buying a new 20-24 inch LCD

Im not to much into extreme gaming I would just like to build a decent rig where i wont have to worry about the future for a good 5 years.

That being said Cyrsis, all the new games etc etc.

Also If someone could recommend a cpu cooler it will be needed as I do plan on overclocking a bit.

Thanks in advance!
