The infamous GTA4 has made me realize that its finally time to retire my 7800GTX 256MB.. Being a nvidia fan i decided upon a GTX 260 core 216 courtsey EVGA.. But nvidia has done it again.. Speculations about core 206(Q1 2009) has put my upgrade on hold and somewhat confused me.. The only thing i don't want now is purcahsing the card only to see its prices going way below any time sooner.. Please help me out with my dilemma.. Should i go for it?? I currently game on a GIGABYTE EP45-UD3R(upgraded recently from an INTEL DG33FB) and an INTEL Q9550(upgraded from an INTEL E6750).. Currently run my games on a 19" VIEWSONIC P97f+ PRO CRT.. Preferred playing res. 1600 X 1200

I'd go for it, I doubt that a new NVIDIA GT200 card coming in Q1 is going to be any better than whats there now. GTX 260 Core 216 or GTX 280. I personally am going for either an HD4850/70 card soon. Secondly, why would a new NVIDIA card be core 206? must mean less stream processors in effort to sell at a lower price range. GTX 260 Core 216 or HD 4870/X2 are the best bets at that price range.

I`d also say go for it, just do the usual price checks to make sure you get the best deal on what you want.

Thanks a lot.. Can't seem to wait any longer anyway.. One more query, what is it with 55nm?? Does it boasts better thermal ratings or performance or anything like that?? Can't seem to find a proper review..

The GTX260-216 55nm IS the G206/GT206, there's a bunch of reviews out there now, and a few people like Jay2Tall have them;

There will be a fully open GTX285 version of the card but that's it for the year.

The benefits are essentially lower power consumption, a little faster speed potential. Alot of the low temp potential seems to have been squandered by putting a smaller heatsink and copper block on it.

Still a very nice card though.

The only major issue for some is that they increased the price of the 55nm GTX260-216 over that of the 65nm GTX260-216, but it's only a small boost in performance sometimes not worth the premium.

Best thing is to look for the various reviews, they will be recent.
