I have been out of the latest technology loop for awhile now...but it is about that time again. I'm looking to build a new rig and would like to get people's advice. I'm basically looking to build an inexpensive computer, but I want the most bang for the buck.
So as for as CPU goes, I'm thinking a Core2Duo (not sure which one, there is a dizzying amount of them) and the LGA775 platform I suppose...
Now I have a few questions:
-Should I consider AMD? If so, which models?
-What is the fastest memory technology out now, and...what is the best option if i'm going for cheap performance?
DUAL core AMD, as close to 3ghz and a motherboard that will except quads. Buy a cheap/fast dual core with DDR2 now, and you can just upgrade to a quad once AMD gets decent ones out there... that's my plan anyways...
please don't flame
Then go with something like a 7750 BE, 4GB of DDR2 800, Decent quality 450-600W PSU, a Radeon 4850/4830 and you can build a pretty decent system with an HD, Case, and DVD burner for around $400. Of course you also need to worry about an OS, keyboard, mouse, and whatnot. Anyway I think you should start off there and put in better components as your budget will allow.
