I have a Turbolink 450ATX-12V(450W max) power supply. I recently got a 9800gt not knowing it needed a 6 pin PCI-E connection. My power supply doesn't have one. The information that came with my graphics card says they don't support the use of two 4-pin to one 6-pin cable converter. I am wondering what truth there is to this. What would you recommend doing? Buy a whole new Power supply or get one of these converters? Is there really any great risk with the converters?
This is what it says on the side of the power supply
I think you are going to need a new PSU man. Sorry to say, looks like you only have 20 amps on the 12v+ rail. I know I just got a new 9600gt for my rig, and they recommend a PSU with 26 amps on the 12v+ rail, and my card is a step down from yours.
Although, if the PSU was more powerful, I'm not sure why the adapter would not work, as a lot of manufacturers even give you that adapter in the box. Mine did. But I still don't think I'd run that PSU because if a PSU goes, you could potentially take out other parts.
Where do you live and what's your budget? Maybe we can help you pick up a decent PSU.
