A question about my (aging) motherboard, the GA-K8NSNXP. What is the maximum HDD size it can handle?
I'm thinking about adding a 500GB or 1TB SATA 3.0 but not sure if there will be any issues with the motherboard. The motherboard itself is rated to handle SATA 1.5, but in the past I've attached a 160GB SATA 3.0 before, and it did work. So at least that much I do know.
Either will work fine - just be aware that there are still Seagates floating around in the channel that have the dreaded 'sleeping disease' firmware - drive issues a distinct 'click', and disappears off your SATA controller; new firmare is available:

Thanks bilbat. Most likely I'll be getting a Hitachi, same brand as the 160GB that I tested before. Or possibly a Samsung as a second choice. For now I'll leave Seagate alone :-)
Well, your choice - but there's no reason to be afraid of the Seagates, you just need to be aware of the problem; I think it took, from diagnosis, through download and burn of the repair CD, to re-boot & flash firmware, probably all of fifteen minutes to fix my 1.5 Tb
