Sound Question.???

okay guys here is the problem.. i have a sony vaio desktop and for some odd reason i have no sounds coming from my videos.. mind you if i go online to you tube.. i can listen to the site fine.. my computer still makes the sound at start up.. but with my video files such as avi. .mpeg and my mp3 files dont play.. i i tried to install i tunes and it says it has a problem with the audio device.. i tried to download k lite codec pack and thats not even working??i i dont know a whole lot about k lite codec pack.. i am running vista ultimate.. also the files play fine on my laptop with windows xp.. thanks
