Using Disk Management
To start Disk Management:

Log on as an administrator or as a member of the Administrators group.
Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
Click Performance and Maintenance, click Administrative Tools, and then double-click Computer Management. In the console tree, click Disk Management.

memory failure might be referring to a fault with RAM modules, check that your RAM sticks are fully in the socket

is your hard drive an HDD or SSD? xp doesn't support SSD by default you need to load the drivers for SSD before installation of XP
