Hey all first post here,

I just decided to upgrade my P4 to a core 2 E8400 and a new motherboard and they should be coming in tomorrow. Now i would like to know what type of memory i should buy? What is the best that is reasonable?

My motherboard:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?nm_mc=AFC-SlickDeals&cm_mmc=AFC-SlickDeals-_-NA-_-NA-_-NA&Item=N82E16813128358

My CPU:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?nm_mc=AFC-SlickDeals&cm_mmc=AFC-SlickDeals-_-NA-_-NA-_-NA&Item=N82E16819115037

The specs from the motherboard regarding memory are as follows:

Memory
Number of Memory Slots 4×240pin
Memory Standard DDR2 1366+/1066/800/667
Maximum Memory Supported 16GB
Channel Supported Dual Channel

So i know i need to buy a DDR2, dual channel memory. What confuses me is the speeds and how they are rated, what timings are and what is the best for my motherboard, and what is all this "voltage" talk? Oh and if i get a faster memory ie. 1366+ do i need a new PSU? I currently have a 400w Allied PSU.

Please help me i know i should have done more research but im so excited getting my new board tomorrow!

Thanks in advance!

So my understanding is that ddr2 800 can be overclocked to 1066 correct?

Also, my current memory is ddr2 667 single channel. Would I be able to use this on my new mobo till my new memory comes in? The specs say dual channel but not sure if single channel would work.
Thanks guys

+1 on the g.skills pi black ddr2 800.

Yea you can overclock them but, only if needed would the ram needed.

If your going to do any sort of overclocking, i would go with 1066mhz.
