Hi.
I am setting up a new machine for my in-laws and I wanted to install Windows XP on their machine. I used the CD that I got from an MS friend a few years ago (I no longer use XP). I suppose it is an OEM version.
I lost the CD case and with it, I lost the product key. I presumed that I can get any XP key from the internet and finish my installation. I couldn't because I kept getting the message - "Invalid Product Key".
I searched the net and found that I can get the Key for my CD from within the CD itself - I had to open a document called "Unattend.txt" wherein my product key would be there.
I now use this product key that I found in the text, but that doesn't work too. How could that be? If I am using the product key of the same CD and if it is a fresh install on a brand new hard drive - it should work, right?
Any one has any idea of what's gone wrong? What should I be doing now?
