Should get a huge jump. Figure it this way. The 4670 is almost as good, not quite, but almost as good as a 9600gt. That should hold you over for a while. May want to look at trying to get a little more power out of your cpu though.
Ah I see. Well long story short, I still think the 4670 would give you a good performance boost, however, be sure to check the sticker on the side of your power supply to make sure it can handle the card.
It's a great choice for a 300w power supply in your Gateway. Very good performance at @ $80. It should just pop right in to replace your 8500GT. New drivers and you're good to go.
I am hoping to be able to play unreal tournament 3 maxed out at 1280x960 with this setup, right now with the 8500 I get 30 - 70 fps at 1024x768 with world detail at 1 and textures at 5.
It may be worth considering a 4650 as well, personally i would get the 4670 but i thought i would throw it in as its not miles behing the 4670 and may save the OP a few bucks.

A good combination of components, just replace that 300w, keep track of all connectors and make sure they're replaced correctly, install the 8800GTS and plug in the 6 pin PCIe connector to it. Update your drivers. You should get 60fps in most areas, but will still drop to 20s and 30s in Dalaran or while flying. Good luck.
