I know the graphics card blows.. but will this handle warhammer and CoD4 without a problem
I want to know opinions and didn't know if this will run smooth enough on mmo's or fps onlines...
thanks =]

First thing I would do is only use 4gig of memory. I tried 8 and it's only minimally useful for gaming. You can always buy more later. The next thing I would do is cancel the sound card for now. Personally I'd get a $30 creative card if I though I needed one. Sound is good enough. ( I have a fatility titanium and an x-fi gamer ) The graphics card..........If you're building a gamer buy a decent card to help play the game better and help show off the eye candy. The money saved on the extra memory and the sound card should help you do that. You mentioned online gaming. A better card will keep the frame rates up helping your kill count, unless you suck....... lol

You'd see MUCH more performance if you went a Q6600 or an E8400/E8500, and a HD4870. I have 8gb of RAM, and honestly 4gb gives the same performance, at least for now.

Or you could do what swifty_morgan suggests. And keep the Q9550, but drop 4gb of ram, the sound card, and put the extra cash towards a better videocard.

Also i hope you've remembered to include a Case and PSU in all that.

I agree with lucuis and swifty in that 8 gigs of ram is useless without heavy photoshop or cad or something.

Drop to 2 sticks of 2 gigs each and remember that if you ever want to overclock, then two sticks of ram OC way better than 4 sticks.

Secondly, the sound card investment is not bad but the increase in performance is marginal without a good speaker system/setup so ask yourself if you are an audiophile or a gamer.

If you are a gamer then I recommend that you go with a 4850 or even 4870.

^+1 he is right 8GB for nw is not required...go for 4 gb and invest the rest in a gfx...like he said 4870 is the best option or u can still go for 4850...

listen to what they are telling... from what i see you don't need 8gb of RAM vista doesn't need that much

next i would step your CPU down to a Q9450

together that would save you probably 100bucks put that to a good GPU i would say a 4850 should do

you could also drop the sound card (up to you) and bump it up to a 1Gig 4870 just a thought

your gaming takes a lot more from a GPU than a CPU so make sure not to skimp out on a good GPU when you have a nice display

ya i would've gotten 4 gigs of ram and a 4870 but i got this as a package for dell
the price was awesome because it came with other stuff and that monitor the 8 gigs of ram was the only option for the customizing
but my cpu i think is great but i agree my gpu sucks dick..
but do yall think ill still be able to play online games untill christmas time because thats when i might get a 4870 to complete everything....
i just hope it will run cod4 online perfectly without lagg

Reply to gcranium1

You should be fine playing games for now, you might not be able to max COD4, just make sure to run the settings appropriate to get smooth frame rates. As for running online without lag, that got nothing to do with your computer, sorry.

Also when you upgrade you graphics card, make sure that the PSU Dell supplied is powerful enough, otherwise it'll also need to be replaced.

Hi from Australia, I am running a Q9550 and it is the only thing you have done right <sorry> Also I am a crazy tech . First - get rid of Vista ! it is a dead dog and always has been . Until Windows 7 arrives use XP pro . Now, Grab some decent ram -say DDR2 1200 x2G << always presuming you have killed the monster Mistya LOL. At any rate I would run 1200 ram against 800 all day and just maybe go for DDR3 -it is getting more stable now. Having installed XP Pro and not having the need for massive amounts of ram -go grab a good video card say a 512 MB 880 gt that is running DDR3 ram .. and as for sound ? -heck grab some good speakers -logitech z11 or like that . OK now that I have messed around with your PC - One last thing ..... If you even THINK about Norton 360 tragic .... well .... you are sure gunna have a bad day . All my comments are meant in good faith - Cheers - Perry

Spoken like a clueless one.

First, Vista is the way to go, and has been since at least the release of SP1. Anyone still convinced that XP is the way to go is in denial. Second, DDR2 1200 is useless. Get DDR2-800 and be happy - the FSB architecture can't really take advantage of any more than that, and DDR3 has never had any stability problems. It just isn't needed on any CPU with a FSB.

every system should be raid!

make it a dual volume and split the os drive into raid0 and second slow half into raid1 for back up!

its only a few dollars more $80 for F1 750 vs $60 for 500gb

2 drives $120

stiill got 750gb but...

1) you have far superior multitasking speed - you notive a huge improvement in booting and just desktop nivagion speed

2) you have reduant raid1 if one drives fail you better off then just 1 750 - one drive fails - pop in a new drive and the raid1 will recover

why waste $150 dollars on q9550?

get a q6600 clock it to 3.6ghz and buy a better video card

put half into the second drive and half into the video card

we are building a $5000 system to be tested by internet site, a request, we are using a $300 cpu - i am sure some will laugh but if we out perform of add more features for the same price?

fsb400 is supper easy with most mobos - you did not state your mobo.

p5q pro - i have been using these for a while you got 8phase power for the oc and crossfire

+1, Vista is fine as long as you dont run it on out dated hardware.

Your choice of CPU and ram could get you a core i7 for a few $$ more, and you will have a faster more future proof rig.
