Replacement of the failed raid 1 drive

Please tell me if I must to replace failed raid 1 drive with the same HD or I can use different HD?

  1. If not an identical HDD, the new HDD should be an equivalent in speed and capacity. If it is larger, make a 2nd primary partition, then re-size the 1st primary partition to the same capacity as your original RAID HDD, and then allocate the remainder of new HDD's capacity to the 2nd partition.
