Hello,

I have some questions about temps and any help or advice would be very much appreciated. Im running i7 920 on Gigabyte EX-58-UD5. Im planning to OC that bastard but first i want to establish basic temps...and Im not sure which one i should follow. Im also not very clear on what is the difference between CPU temp and Core temp. I assume that the CPU temp is kind of median for all the cores but im not sure about that.

Here are my temps according to different temp softwares - at idle and at full load with Prime95:

The BIOS reading are the same as EasyTune6.

EasyTune6 - came with the MB so i assume it should be pretty reliable:

System - 31C - 31C
CPU - 30C - 43C

SpeedFan 4.37 - i have read about it and it sounds like also reliable software:

Core0 - 22C - 44C
Core1 - 19C - 43C
Core2 - 18C - 41C
Core3 - 20C - 41C

CPUID HW Pro:

Core0 - 37C - 59C
Core1 - 36C - 55C
Core2 - 35C - 57C
Core3 - 35C - 55C

Real Temp - also heard that it is pretty reliable software:

36C - 59C
34C - 57C
35C - 56C
33C - 55C

Core Temp:

36C - 59C
34C - 58C
34C - 56C
35C - 56C

As you can see different softwares show different temps. By the way , when i touch heatsink at idle it is pretty much cold and at full load it is barely warm. I thought that at high temps like 60C the heatsink should be very warm but it is not.
I have Aksa heatsink and i changed stock fan which runs between 500-1500RPM to a different fan which runs 800-2850 RPM. At the full load the fan is running about 2200 RPM.
I tried to OC to 4GHz and then to 3.8GHz but the temps were vert high - about 80C and higher.
My case has 3 fans: front, side and rear. Plus the heatsink fan so the airflow doesnt seem to be an issue.
S, what temps should i look for at stock option and at OC option??

Please, any advice on stock temps and OC temps would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

First off, your CPU temps are fine for a mild overclock (3.2GHz) but to go to the length you're trying to would call for liquid cooling or a huge heat sink with a lot of case fans.

Hey thanx for the input. i agree that Akasa in not very big and also no the best heatsink out there.
I have read an article about OCing with akasa and it seemed pretty good. They got it up to 3.8 and it was stable so i thought i could pull this off as well.
The idea of 4 or higher is totally out of question.
