i have a quick question for anyone willing to answer. i'm seriously thinking about buying another monitor for my system for a rather interesting purpose, and i'm wondering if it will slow down my gaming performance. basically, i would like to buy another monitor so i could view the game guides found on the internet while playing a game. therefore, i will simply be viewing a web page on one monitor (and NOTHING else), and gaming on the other.
i have a decent system, i think, so i'm just wondering if adding that 2nd monitor will impact my gaming performance.
here's my specs:
GTX 260 Core 216
Core 2 Duo e8400 (clocked at 3.8)
4 GB DDR2 1066 RAM
160 GB Hard Drive
well, i think that's it. oh, and right now, i have a 19" monitor (1280x1024 max resolution) and i plan on getting a second 19" widescreen monitor.
also, do the 2 monitors have to be exactly the same, in terms of resolution, and will having another monitor overheat my GPU/CPU (they're both overclocked, so that's why i'm asking)
I did some testing (with timedemo of q3) and came to the conclusion that just a browser on the second monitor will have close to no impact on your game performance as long as you're not visiting some cpu demanding site. I used and old Athlon t-bred/AN7+9700PRO, so with your hardware you should be able to do what you want.
yes you can do this, if you want to test to see what it would be like, open up the webpage that you would use then load your game and leave the browser open..
having a second monitor doesnt effect performance(it does but who the hell cares about 0.2 fps)
