if you want to change your desktop wallpaper, right click the desktop>properties> Desktop>pick new picture>hit ok
if you're talking about in-folder background image/coloring, try appearances in the same (desktop right click> properties > go to appearance tab) if you can't get the desired result from there, further modification requires registry editing
