After replacing the MB, ram, video Bd I tried to boot from the old HD. I got nowhere! Is there a simple reset I can do to make the new MB and old HD talk?

It is most likely that you will need to re-install Windows to get it to work with your new hardware. As you have completely changed the CPU and Mobo then the old core driver setup just won't work with the new hardware so it will fail to boot.
This doesn't have to be as painful as it sounds! A 'Windows Repair' will do the job and you will keep all your programs and files.
