Im getting a new computer for gaming soon and im wonder if the mobo helps gaming or does it not really matter. All i know about the motherboard im getting is that its going to be an x58 for my intel i7 920.
Oh and do certain mobos prefer nvidia or radeon cause im getting either a gtx 275 or 295.
There is usually close to no performance difference between different boards using the same chipset. As for "prefer nvidia or radeon", not really, but some X58 boards will support only SLI or Crossfire; some also do both. No need for either if you are using a single dual-GPU card like the GTX295 or the 4870X2.
What resolution will you be playing at? It could make a difference on whether you should get a GTX275 or a GTX295.

A single GTX275 or GTX285 would probably be enough. If games start to require more, you can always add a 2nd later (if you get a X58 board that supports SLI). In the end, 2xGTX275 would be more powerful than a single GTX295 and 2 GTX285 even more so.
