What's HD Audio on my P5Q Board?

I'm starting to put together my new system build on a Asus P5Q Pro board. In years past when I built a system I always had a Sound Blaster card. I've had them for many years. But apparently now they are not needed, or so I read on these boards. Anyway, my board either has the AC97 or "We recommend that you connect a high-definition front panel audio module to this connector to avail the motherboard's high-definition audio capability" as it says in the manual. What the hell does that all mean? I'm confused....

Thanks,

Ok, I think I figured it out. There was a AC97 and a HD Audio wire on my case so I just hooked up the HD Audio cable to my board. I guess that answers my question......
