Can get prompt for safe mode options but keyboard is not working to arrow to it.

I dectected a visus on my pc so I tried to start up in safe mode. I am using a usb board that was installed when the usb drivers failed. The keyboard and mouse will not normally work until the system boots up but with the virus the screen is gray when the start up is finished. I think that if I can get to the safe mode option I could get everything cleared up. Suggestions please!

Does you PC have purple and green circular sockets on the back for older style keyboard and mouse? If so, perhaps you could borrow a keyboard for an hour.

it does but those do not work anymore when the stock usb/ports failed. That was the reason I had to install the usb card so I could get use of the computer again. I am going to try a used hard drive to see if I can get the system to boot up past the current windows prompt. I don't know if there is a board or drive probelm. thanks for the advice.

you could try a different keyboard maybe, or even plug a usb keyboard into the 'usb to ps/2' adapter. just guessing

it sounds like you're having problems with your motherboard. I'd look into replacing that before you can troubleshoot the problem any further

Try your USB keyboard again and then boot up and go into BIOS or Setup. Check that USB Legacy Support is enabled to allow power to the Ports before the OS cuts in.
