2 Hard Drives - 2 Oper. Sys??

i am trying to install hard drive from a pc that i no longer use in a newer model. old drive is xp new is vista. have changed jumpers on old hard drive to slave. installed old drive but cannot get computer to recognize 2nd drive. have tried unplugging
sata hard drive hoping the computer would boot in xp.(does not boot or recognized slave. had hoped i could use the two drives and switch back and forth. to make a long story short i'm really just trying to save data on the old drive. can this be
accomplished by someone who knows nothing more technical about a computer than if you turn them on it will more than likely will work just like magic.

If you're trying to use the old hard drive to boot from, you will run into problems as that installation of XP doesn't have the correct drivers for your new system.

If the old drive is a PATA drive and is the only device on the IDE chain, then it should be set to single or master.
